Songbirds. Every time I said I was going to Songbirds the response was nostalgic. Everyone knows Songbirds and everyone has a story about good times there. Fortunately Songbirds at Mt Tamborine has reopened.
My Bff FlygirlRach & I were invited to do what we do best: lunch. When we arrived and learned it was a 6 course degustation menu with matching wines we knew they had invited the right people!
We were met by James, who introduced us to Alex the Restaurant Manager. Alex showed us through the courses and accompanying wines. Both Alex & James were incredibly professional, whilst keeping the afternoon relaxed and informative. We loved the food and the matching wines, and were very impressed when we were offered a second glass of the Hahndorf Hill Rose – they must have realised that we are “Rose tasting experts”.
Head Chef is Meyjitte Boughenout. He has designed a fun and fabulous menu that will appeal to everyone. The courses have been shared on @dressmegc Instagram stories & highlights.
Most of the produce is grown on the premises. The gardens are extensive and add to the charm of the place. This is a new project for Songbirds that has seen it’s share of frustrations and triumphs.
Of course there is more to Songbirds than the restaurant. There are six villas/cabins nestled in the rainforest surrounds with a further two under construction. After lunch we were very privileged to be taken on a VIP walk around the grounds and gardens with Chef. This was a highlight – his enthusiasm and vision for Songbirds is infectious.
Thank you for having us – We will definitely be back. Songbirds is open Thursday to Saturday 12-3, 6-9 and Sundays 12-3.
